Executive Summary
SUPPLEMENT/DRUG PREMIUM COULD FINANCE ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT STUDIES for critically ill patients, Thomas Moore, George Washington University Medical Center, suggested at a House Government Reform & Oversight Committee hearing Feb. 4. Many alternative treatments, including herbal therapies, are unlikely to be tested because they are unpatentable, Moore pointed out, adding that "a very small charge on every prescription and nutritional supplement and treatment, on the order of 1% to 4%, would probably pay for most of the testing that needs to be done."
