Executive Summary
EPHEDRINE ALKALOIDS 8 MG/SERVING FDA PROPOSED LIMIT "TOO HIGH," the Association of Food and Drug Officials maintains in Nov. 22 comments to FDA on the agency's June 4 proposed rule on dietary supplements containing the ingredients. AFDO, which represents state food and health department officials, says the proposed limit of 8 mg per serving is "too high and should be substantially reduced." Setting the level at 8 mg, "where life- threatening adverse events `can reasonably be expected to occur,'" as FDA says, "does not adequately protect consumers and sets a dangerous precedent for a `standard of adulteration' for dietary supplements," AFDO says.
