ZINC LOZENGES EVIDENCE IN TREATING COLDS "STILL LACKING," according to the results of a meta-analysis of six clinical trials of various oral zinc salts lozenges in patients with community acquired colds, Jeffrey Jackson, MD, et al., Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Wash., conclude in a study published in the Nov. 10 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. The meta-analysis was of nine randomized clinical trials identified in a literature review; one that looked at palatability was excluded, as were two that involved test subjects being inoculated with rhinovirus and did not report symptoms at day seven, the data point selected for analysis by Jackson and colleagues.
