Executive Summary
Amway: Submitted an Oct. 8 citizen petition to FDA requesting permission to use the results of an intra-oral test in humans to demonstrate the bioavailability of fluoride in Glister Fluoride Toothpaste, a product which has been on the market for about 18 years. The final monograph, which requires animal caries bioavailability data, became effective Oct. 7. As part of its company policy, Amway does not test its product on animals. Tom's of Maine, another company which does not test its products on animals, recently submitted a petition for its Children's, Baking Soda and Wintermint toothpaste formulations ("The Tan Sheet" Sept. 22, p. 6).
