ST. JOHN's WORT NIH DEPRESSION STUDY TO BEGIN IN SPRING, with the recruitment of approximately 336 subjects, the National Institutes of Health said Oct. 2. The study of the herb Hypericum perforatum for the treatment of major depressive disorder will be funded jointly by the National Institute of Mental Health, NIH's Office of Alternative Medicine and Office of Dietary Supplements. OAM allocated $1.5 mil. to the study from its FY 1997 budget for the year ended Sept. 30.
