Executive Summary
EUCERIN USE WITH Rx STEROID FOR ATOPIC DERMATITIS CUTS COSTS BY HALF for consumers by reducing steroid application from twice- to once-daily through the added use of the water-in-emollient moisturizer, according to results of a study performed by Anne Lucky, MD, et al., Dermatology Research Associates (Cincinnati, Ohio). Published in the July/August 1997 issue of Pediatric Dermatology, the study evaluated comparative regimens of once-daily application each of prescription hydrocortisone 2.5% cream and Beiersdorf's Eucerin Original Creme against twice-daily application of the hydrocortisone treatment in 25 children with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis. The regimens were found to be of "equivalent" efficacy. Rx steroid treatments cost between $10 to $30 per ounce, while water-in-oil moisturizers such as Eucerin average around $1 an ounce, the researchers said.
