Executive Summary
FTC final weight loss orders: Federal Trade Commission approves nine consent agreements with weight loss products marketers and their executives June 20. The agreements are with: Amerifit (Fat Burners and Fast Burners); KCD and Deerfield Corp. (SeQuester); Interactive Medical Technologies and Effective Health, Inc. (Lipitrol and SeQuester); 2943174 Canada (Svelt-Patch); Bodywell (Slimming Soles); Guildwood Direct Limited (Slimming Insoles); and Dean Distributors (Food for Life Weight Management System and Cambridge Diet). FTC has three separate consent orders with IMT/EHI and two company officers, William Pelzer and William Shell, MD. Under the orders, all of the companies are required to obtain additional scientific substantiation for their weight loss claims. The final orders contain the same provisions as FTC's proposed consent agreements with the firms, which were released March 25 in conjunction with a consumer education/regulatory program, "Operation Waistline" ("The Tan Sheet" March 31, pp. 9-11)...
