OTC labels and pharmacists: House Resolution introduced May 15 by Reps. Michael Crapo (R-Idaho), Marion Berry (D-Ark.) and Wes Watkins (R-Okla.) states FDA should take appropriate action to "encourage consumers to consult with their pharmacists in connection with the purchase and use of over-the-counter drug products." Intent of the resolution is to encourage FDA to require addition of the phrase "or pharmacist" to the "ask your doctor" directions on OTC labeling. The Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (formerly NARD), which supports the resolution, urges FDA in a May 15 letter to specify inclusion of "or pharmacists" in its OTC labeling policy.
