Executive Summary
NICOTINE PATCH THERAPY DOES NOT INCREASE CARDIAC EVENTS incidence in patients with cardiac disease, according to a study conducted by Anne Joseph, MD, University of Minnesota, et al., published in the Dec. 12 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. The authors determined that "serious adverse events are common and occur at nearly the same rate among subjects with cardiovascular disease who try to quit smoking, regardless of whether they use transdermal nicotine or placebo."
