Executive Summary
NNFA: Burton Kallman, PhD, National Nutritional Foods Association director of Science & Technology, will retire, effective Dec. 31. A 12-year veteran of NNFA, Kallman has been the association's first and only science director and twice has served as acting executive director. During his tenure, Kallman has been active in a number of issues central to NNFA, including consolidation of differing GMP regs, creation of the group's scientific advisory council and development of NNFA's iron supplement voluntary program. In testimony at an April meeting of the President's Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels, Kallman called for the use of a science-based rating system for supporting supplement health claims ("The Tan Sheet" May 13, p. 8).
