DHEA: The adrenal androgen supplement is featured in the Oct. 11 issue of The Medical Letter -- the weekly publication for medical professionals distills current data on drugs and other products to help professionals respond to patient questions and keep abreast of side-effect profiles, adverse events and efficacy. The Medical Letter concludes that there is "no convincing evidence that DHEA has any beneficial effect on aging or any disease." DHEA "can have androgenic adverse effects in women, including some that may be irreversible. In men," the publication states, DHEA "could stimulate the growth of prostate cancer....Patients would be well advised not to take it"...
