FOLIC ACID BENEFITS UNKNOWN TO 71% OF WOMEN IN GEORGIA SURVEY, according to the Sept. 20 issue of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Based on 1995 Georgia Women's Health Survey data, F. Serbanescu, MD, Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Public Health, et al. found that "only 20% of Georgia women aged 15-44 years consumed a multivitamin" containing at least 400 æg folic acid per day and "71% did not know that folic acid can prevent some birth defects."
