SEN. HATCH AIMING FOR FLOOR CONSIDERATION OF METHAMPHETAMINE BILL in early September when Congress returns from its August recess. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) still plans to "hotline" S 1965 through the Senate by unanimous consent despite publication of the Drug Enforcement Administration's final pseudoephedrine regs on Aug. 7. The bill attempts to restrain illicit production of methamphetamine by imposing, among other things, new controls on the sale of precursor substances such as pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine ("The Tan Sheet" July 22, p. 3).
