Executive Summary
OTC DENTIFRICE EXPOSURES RESULTING IN ADVERSE EVENTS AVERAGE 7% IN 1994-1995, based on data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers' Toxic Exposure Surveillance System. Of the 7,545 exposures to fluoride-containing dentifrices recorded by TESS for the two-year period, approximately 7% were classified as adverse reactions. Data on dentifrices and oral rinses were reviewed in an April report to FDA sponsored by the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association.
