Executive Summary
FOLATE INTAKE DOES NOT REDUCE NTD RISK FOR OBESE WOMEN in a study that appears in the April 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Based on data collected through a six-year surveillance program, Martha Werler et al., Boston University School of Public Health, concluded that, "independent of the effects of folate intake," the risk of neural tube defects in infants rose as the pre-pregnant weight of the mothers increased.
