VITAMIN E HAS LITTLE EFFECT, BETA CAROTENE NONE ON ANGINA PECTORIS in 22,269 Finnish males, ages 50-69, who smoke five or more cigarettes daily, according to a study published in the March 6 Journal of the American Medical Association. The study, an extension of the Alpha Tocopherol, Beta Carotene Cancer Prevention Study (ATBC), found that "supplementation with alpha tocopherol was associated with only a minor decrease" in the incidence of angina pectoris and "beta carotene had no preventative effect and was associated with a slight increase."
