Executive Summary
Olestra product fortification: In approving the Procter & Gamble fat-substitute, FDA requires that all products containing Olestra be fortified with vitamins A, D, E and K because the substance is known to inhibit the absorption of those vitamins by the body. Olestra also hinders absorption of beta carotene, but the agency has decided against requiring inclusion of that nutrient until it receives data supporting such a move.
