Executive Summary
HYDROGEN PEROXIDE/SODIUM BICARBONATE LONG-TERM EFFICACY DATA NEEDED, OTC Plaque Products Subcommittee member Eugene Savitt, DMD, concluded in his presentation at the panel's Dec. 4-5 meeting in Rockville, Md. Despite the "large body" of dental literature on hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate, Savitt said "there is a lack of well-controlled studies for either ingredient of sufficient length to draw firm conclusions" about their anti-gingivitis and plaque efficacy. The subcommittee did not vote on ingredients at the meeting.
