Executive Summary
CALCIUM RDA FOR ELDERLY "MAY BE TOO LOW," Richard Wood et al. suggested in an article published in the September issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The article is based on a literature review focusing on the adequacy of the 1989 recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) for calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc and selenium for the elderly. The authors, who are with the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University and the Department of Medicine, University Hospital, Zurich, also examined the estimated safe and adequate daily dietary intakes (ESADDIs) for copper and chromium.
