HATCH's FOOD STAMP BILL WOULD ALLOW PURCHASE OF HERBS, AMINO ACIDS and expand the list of purchasable dietary supplements currently permitted by HR 1997, the House food stamp legislation authored by Rep. Bill Emerson (R-Mo.) that originally was designated HR 236 ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 16, In Brief). Under the bill (S 1143) introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Aug. 9, USDA food stamp recipients could purchase any dietary supplement with program funds.
