Executive Summary
OTC CHOLESTEROL TESTS DO NOT MEET NCEP ACCURACY STANDARDS, GAO concluded in a recent report on problems associated with cholesterol measurement. Titled "Cholesterol Measurement: Test Accuracy and Factors that Influence Cholesterol Levels," the General Accounting Office report noted that the home-use cholesterol test "does not meet [National Cholesterol Education Program] standards for precision and accuracy (as judged by `traceability' to the Abell-Kendall reference method)."
