Executive Summary
ANTIHISTAMINE META-ANALYSIS "LEGITIMATELY ANALYZES" DRUG EFFICACY DATA as a single, multi-center study on the use of antihistamines in the common cold, Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee member Marcus Reidenberg, MD, Cornell Medical Center, observed at a Nov. 15 joint meeting of NDAC and the Pulmonary- Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee. Noting that much of the data analyzed alone showed inconsistent associations between antihistamines and cold symptom improvement, Reidenberg said, the combined analysis demonstrated "the drag was different from placebo by more than a reasonable likelihood that it was fortuitous."
