Executive Summary
FDA tells Henry Thayer & Co. in a June 28 letter that a draft U.S. Pharmacopeia monograph for elm bark is "currently being reviewed for approval" and could possibly be published in USP's Pharmacopeial Forum in November. Henry Thayer, which markets elm bark lozenges for xerostomia, was told by FDA that a USP monograph for elm bark is needed before the ingredient can be included in the final monograph for OTC oral health care products ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 4, 1993, p. 16)
