Executive Summary
J&J unit receives a patent protecting "critical" features of One Touch test strips used in its blood glucose monitoring systems. The patent strengthens LifeScan's legal case against Polymer Technology International and Can-Am Care. LifeScan has charged both firms with infringement of existing patents for the manufacture and/or distribution of off- brand test strips for use in One Touch systems ("The Tan Sheet" Nov. 15, 1993, p. 9). As a result of the new patent, LifeScan has filed a new suit against Issaquah, Wash.-based PTI and a motion for preliminary injunction to bar PTI from selling its First Choice test strips. LifeScan also is amending its original suit against Chazy, N.Y.-based Can-Am charging that the company's Quick-Check and Relief Plus test strips also infringe on the new LifeScan patent
