Awards five-year $500,000 "no strings-attached" research grant to researchers at Johns Hopkins University Center for Human Nutrition. In a March 24 press release, Benjamin Caballero, MD/PhD, the director of the center, said the funding will allow the center "to concentrate on research topics with major public health implications, such as antioxidant vitamins and chronic diseases." Among the ongoing research initiatives at the center are studies examining the relationship between diet and cardiovascular disease and obesity, and the potential for high amounts of antioxidant vitamins to lower the risk of heart disease.
