NUTRIENT SOURCE LABEL DECLARATION PETITIONS INVITED BY FDA in a Jan. 4 final rule implementing the nutrition labeling provisions of the Nutrition Labeling & Education Act for dietary supplements. FDA said it "would be receptive to an adequately supported petition" on whether to "permit source declaration within the nutrition label." FDA also said that, if submitted promptly, a petition could be acted upon before the July 1995 effective date of the NLEA nutrition labeling requirements. The proposed rule on supplement nutrition labeling was issued in June 1993.
