Executive Summary
FDA Folic Acid Subcommittee member Irwin Rosenberg, MD, Tufts University, recommends in a Nov. 15 letter to FDA that folic acid health claims be restricted to dietary supplements containing 400 mcgs folic acid. Rosenberg suggested that claims should not apply to foods or supplements with less than 400 mcgs because "there is no good evidence" that those substances would be beneficial in preventing neural tube defects "based on the data at hand".
