In a letter to the editor of the New England Journal of Medicine (Nov. 4 issue), a group of Florida physicians urges that "possible use of unconventional medical treatment should be considered during history taking." The physicians described a case of proximal muscle weakness in a 69-year-old man that was induced by herbal tablets containing 5.4 mg triamcinolone. "In seeking to avoid medications, this patient unknowingly consumed a substance that induced a severe disability," the MDs concluded.
