Executive Summary
Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association notes in a Sept. 16 release that about 95% of OTCs sold in solid dose form are already imprinted with identification codes under a voluntary program initiated by the industry in 1989. On Sept. 13, FDA issued solid dosage form imprinting final regs ("The Tan Sheet" Sept. 13, p. 17), which NDMA said are "virtually identical" to the industry program. In the final rule, FDA estimated that 70% of OTC drugs are imprinted.
