Dietary supplement questions

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

As a follow-up to a July 20 hearing of the House Government Operations/human resources and intergovernmental relations subcommittee ("The Tan Sheet" July 26, p. 3), Chairman Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) sends out questions to six researchers who testified at the hearing but were not queried by Towns. The questions included: "How would you define significant scientific agreement?" and "what scientific basis exists, if any, to support distinguishing the regulation of health claims on dietary supplements from those on conventional foods?" Towns is said to be considering additional follow-up activities to the hearing.
