Industry stakeholders to discuss import safety
Executive Summary
An import "safety summit" being convened July 9 will feature a multi-stakeholder medical products panel moderated by FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America publicized the summit in concert with HHS' July 1 announcement of progress in implementing the "Action Plan for Import Safety," released in November 2007. The summit is intended to facilitate input in designing remedies to import safety problems. Other cosponsors include the Biotechnology Industry Organization, the Generic Pharmaceutical Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the American National Standards Institute, and associations of the food, retail and toy industries.
