When sponsors of new drugs for the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis/tonsillitis use penicillin as the comparator agent, they should only be required to conduct one adequate and well controlled trial, FDA's Anti-Infective Drugs Advisory Committee recommended at a July 30 meeting to discuss a series of recent FDA draft guidances.
