Executive Summary
DIABETES QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TO SET DIABETES OUTCOMES GOALS for providers and plans, the American Diabetes Association announced Aug. 8. DQIP members include ADA, the Health Care Finance Administration, and the Foundation for Accountability. "Currently, a universal set of outcomes measures does not exist, leaving diabetes patients unable to determine if the care they receive is adequate," ADA declared. A committee to develop the outcomes measures has been set. Although no drug companies are taking part directly, the pharmaceutical industry has participated in the development of a provider recognition program developed by ADA. The committee is chaired by Tufts University's Sheldon Greenfield, MD.
