AHP BUYOUT OF GENETICS INSTITUTE IS DEPARTURE FROM ROCHE/GENENTECH model of brandname/biotech partnerships followed by American Home Products when it acquired a majority stake in Genetics Institute in 1991. That agreement was patterned on Roche's partial acquisition of Genentech. Both deals gave the parent company the option to buy out the rest of the biotech firm at set prices over five years.
