Research ethics safeguard reviews should focus on results, not procedures, bioethics advisory panel told.
Executive Summary
RESEARCH ETHICS SAFEGUARD REVIEWS SHOULD FOCUS ON RESULTS, NOT PROCEDURES, National Bioethics Advisory Commission Chair Harold Shapiro suggested at a Nov. 21 session of the "International Summit of Bioethics Advisory Boards" in San Francisco. "One of the things that plagues us is that accountability and bureaucracy go hand-in-glove," Shapiro said. "The more sure we want to be, the more checkers we need and the [more] checkers on the checkers....There really is no end to that, in principle."
