Astra Merck Prilosec approved for short-term gastric ulcer treatment.

Executive Summary

ASTRA MERCK PRILOSEC FOR SHORT-TERM GASTRIC TREATMENT APPROVED, the company announced March 25. The proton-pump inhibitor omeprazole now is indicated "for short-term treatment (4-8 weeks) of active benign gastric ulcer," labeling states. The drug previously was indicated for short-term treatment of duodenal ulcer, erosive esophagitis and poorly responsive GERD, and maintenance therapy for erosive esophagitis and pathological hypersecretory conditions. The supplemental NDA was submitted in late 1994.
