FDA advisory letters on promotions up 123% in 1995: DTC advice predominates; FY 1997 budget request.
Executive Summary
FDA AD DIVISION ADVISORY LETTERS MORE THAN DOUBLED IN FY 1995, the agency reports in its fiscal 1997 budget justification document. Actions by the Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising & Communications during fiscal 1995 included the issuance of 624 advisory letters and 46 advisory conferences, FDA said. The number of advisory conferences increased 31%, the agency observed. These advance consultations "have resulted in cost avoidances for industry and the American consumer because fewer corrective actions were necessary," FDA maintained.
