Sequential IPV-OPV polio vaccination schedule recommended by CDC cmte.; may go into effect by Jan. 1997.
Executive Summary
IPV-OPV POLIO VACCINATION SEQUENTIAL SCHEDULE MAY GO INTO EFFECT as early as January 1997, following the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' Oct. 18 recommendation to move away from the current oral polio vaccine-only approach. The 10-member panel, chaired by Jeffrey Davis, MD, Wisconsin Department of Health, unanimously agreed to a sequential childhood schedule of two doses of inactivated oral polio vaccine followed by two doses of OPV. CDC's acceptance of the recommendation will be published in an upcoming Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
