PHARMACISTS WRITING MEDICATION ORDERS AT 34.7% OF HOSPITALS surveyed in the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists' biannual study of hospital-based pharmaceutical services, according to a paper published in the June 1 American Journal of Health-system Pharmacy. Hospitals reported that common situations in which pharmacist prescribing is allowed include pharmacokinetic consultations (63%), prescriptions co-signed by a physician (46%), drugs covered by a prescribing protocol (44%) and medication refill clinics (8%).
