PHARMACEUTICAL IMPORTS ACCOUNTED FOR 9.9% OF CONSUMPTION IN U.S. IN 1993, a slight decline from the 1992 rate of 10.3%, according to a recent report by the International Trade Commission entitled "Industry & Trade Summary: Medicinal Chemicals, Except Antibiotics." The level of imports in 1993 represented an increase over the 8.2% rate in 1989. In 1993, the report states, total U.S. consumption was an estimated $49.43 bil., while the value of imports was $4.9 bil.
