AHCPR pain management guideline

Executive Summary

Agency for Health Care Policy & Research has scheduled Sept. 7 public meeting for updating its first clinical practice guideline, "Acute Pain Management: Operative or Medical Procedures and Trauma," released in March 1992 ("The Pink Sheet" March 9, 1992, p. 3). The original guideline concluded that morphine was the drug of choice over Demerol (meperidine) for post-op acute pain.
