BOVINE-DERIVED MATERIALS FROM COUNTRIES WITH BSE SHOULD NOT BE USED
Executive Summary
BOVINE-DERIVED MATERIALS FROM COUNTRIES WITH BSE SHOULD NOT BE USED in FDA-regulated products intended for administration to humans, FDA Deputy Commissioner for Operations Jane Henney said in a Dec. 17 letter to manufacturers. In the letter, the agency requested that all manufacturers cease using "bovine-derived materials from cattle which have resided in or originated from countries where bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) has been diagnosed."
