MEDICARE RESTRICTIVE DRUG FORMULARIES PROPOSAL will be the topic of a hearing by Rep. Waxman (D-Calif.) scheduled for April 1 before the House Energy and Commerce/Health Subcommittee. The hearing will address a Clinton Administration proposal to permit states to establish restrictive drug formularies under Medicaid. A provision in the 1990 Medicaid rebate law (OBRA '90) prohibited state formularies. Scheduled witnesses include: the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, the National Governors Association, Kaiser Commission on the Future of Medicaid Chairman James Tallon and representatives of state legislatures, county health departments and the American Association of Homes for the Aging.
