Executive Summary

Cambridge, Mass.-based biotech startup names Barry Berkowitz, PhD, as president and CEO; William Timberlake, PhD, to VP-research; and Sean O'Connor, PhD, to director of drug discovery. Berkowitz was the founder and chief exec at the start-up Magainin Pharmaceuticals and served as an exec at SmithKline Beckman. Timberlake, a geneticist, joins from the University of Georgia. O'Connor was formerly with Bristol-Myers Squibb. Myco, which recently raised $4 mil. in venture capital backing, will focus initially on discovering and developing "proprietary anti-fungal and other anti-infective drugs" based on fungal genetics and molecular biology, firm says. The startup expects to have $6 mil. total in initial financing within the year.
