DoD prime vendor pilot project
Executive Summary
First awards, expected the week of Nov. 30, have been delayed following a protest filed with the General Accounting Office by Norfolk, Va.-based wholesaler Renow. The project is designed to select a single drug and single medical device distributor for all Defense Department hospitals in a region, with awards targeted initially for the Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia-area regions and then the Tidewater, San Diego and San Francisco areas ("The Pink Sheet" Aug. 17, T&G-2). Renow is concerned that the prime vendor selections favor large wholesalers. GAO's deadline for its DoD prime vendor recommendation is March 8. While GAO's opinions are recommendations only, government agencies generally comply with them. Renow has operations in Pennsylvania, D.C., Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia.
