"There is a lack of adequate data," FDA says, to establish the safety and efficacy of the ingredients lysine, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, or any other oral ingredients to treat fever blisters and cold sores. Rule takes effect Dec. 20.
