Executive Summary

Pfizer's specialty chemical group unveiled the FDA-approved polydextrose bulking agent family Feb. 7. Pfizer said that Litesse offers "greater versatility in formulating lower-calorie foods by providing the bulk that is lost when sugar is removed in the new 'lite' foods." In a separate announcement, Monsanto indicated that its NutraSweet subsidiary will not develop any more products using its Simplesse artificial fat used in its "Simple Pleasures" frozen dessert.
