Executive Summary
FY 1991 spending levels of $8 bil. preserved by the full Senate Oct. 12 with the passage of HHS appropriations legislation (HR 5257). Included is $904 mil. in funding for National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is $41 mil. less than the House bill but $17 mil. more than President Bush's proposal. An additional $6 mil. is provided for basic research into pediatric AIDS. Total AIDS research and treatment funding throughout HHS is $2.1 bil., which is $561 mil. over the Administration's request.
