PHS' Parklawn building
Executive Summary
Public Health Services' 20-year lease on the Parklawn building in Rockville, Maryland, which houses FDA and other agencies, is scheduled to expire in 1990. General Services Administration has advertised for office space equivalent to the size of Parklawn so that the government can obtain the fairest leasing arrangement. The agency is negotiating bids it has received. Principal owner of the Parklawn building is Laszlo Tauber, referred to in the October 1988 Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans as "Uncle Sam's biggest landlord." FDA is still kicking around the idea of a consolidated "FDA campus" although serious consideration will be held off until adequate funding can be appropriated.
