Merck researcher Max Tishler

Executive Summary

Former President of MS&D Labs Max Tishler, PhD, died March 18. At MS&D, he was the leader of research programs that developed drugs for heart disease, hypertension, arthritis, mental depression and infectious diseases. Tishler "established the pattern for biomedical research at Merck," the firm said in a release. Merck noted that Tishler led the Merck group that developed a production process for penicillin. The researcher was also an emeritus University Professor of the Sciences at Wesleyan University. In recognition of his contributions, Tishler was awarded the National Medal of Science in June 1987.
